I hope your having a great summer. While enjoying summer, I’ve made some time for some music projects.
Developing New Interactive Visual Show
While I continue to add songs to my “Expressive Conrollerism” repertoire, I’ve also started work on a brand new show. For this show I’m adding a second laptop that will allow me to control interactive visuals in real-time from my music controllers. I have some big ideas for this show so it’s going to be a number of months before I perform this live.
For this show I’m creating visuals from original photographic and video content that I’ll be manipulating in real-time with video filters and effects. I’m also going to use photos to create harmonic content to use in new compositions. So as part of my summer vacation I took 100s of shots which I’ll save for a future update. For now, checkout the photo above which is a photo of a cloud that I’m morphing with software called Resolume. You can see the projected version of this image on the wall behind my rig.
The Boulder Synthesizer Meetup
I've been working with synths for 20 years and have been blogging about them on Modulate This for over 6 years. I thought it was just about time to start a face-to-face meetup in my neck of the woods to gather the synth tribe around Boulder and surrounding areas. To this end I created The Boulder Synthesizer Meetup. We had our first meeting in July and had a great turnout (pics here). So if your ever in the Boulder area the second Tuesday of a month look us up.
Dark Knight Rises Synth
One of my go to synthesizers is called Zebra and made by U-HE in Berlin (hear it in action on my album I Hear Your Signals). Well it ends up that film composer Hans Zimmer – who scored the last three Batman films and Inception – uses Zebra exclusively. U-HE actually customized a version of Zebra with several features requested by Hans Zimmer resulting in a version of the synth called ZebraHZ or “Dark Zebra”. If that wasn’t cool enough, they offered this special edition to all users for a fee. So of course I’ve upgraded and have spent many hours in July exploring these features and creating signature sounds which will no doubt make it into new compositions.
Well, I’m off to start working on projects for August. Lets talk again soon.
