Last night I gave a talk on using third-party virtual instruments within Ableton Live at the Ableton Colorado User Group. I also took the opportunity to use this as a test for a new sub-variation of my live rig – a minimal clean setup with only a laptop, a Remote SL 25 Key controller, and the UltraNova synth which doubled as a sound card.
The rig performed very well, took only minutes to setup (it’s only 2 USB cables and a power cable), and sounded great. I got to play a new UltraNova patch I’m working on at high volumes using the Walnut Room's awesome PA. Based on the reaction, I’d say the sound of UltraNova surprised some people in a good way.

David Henderson was kind enough to some of the pictures above.
If you’d like to learn more about the virtual synths I presented on last night, checkout this interactive mindmap (click on the “+” to expand a branch, and click on branches to visit related web sites). The map contains synths I mentioned in the talk as well as other picks.
