Notes and Photos from May 2011 Ableton Colorado Meetup

Last night I gave a talk on using third-party virtual instruments within Ableton Live at the Ableton Colorado User Group. I also took the opportunity to use this as a test for a new sub-variation of my live rig – a minimal clean setup with only a laptop, a Remote SL 25 Key controller, and the UltraNova synth which doubled as a sound card.

The rig performed very well, took only minutes to setup (it’s only 2 USB cables and a power cable), and sounded great. I got to play a new UltraNova patch I’m working on at high volumes using the Walnut Room's awesome PA. Based on the reaction, I’d say the sound of UltraNova surprised some people in a good way.

Meet My Novation UltraNova Synthesizer

Producer Notes: ElectraX Virtual Synthesizer - One of My Go To Synths on New Tracks

 

It's been a while since I did a behind-the-scense post so I thought I'd share a screenshot of one of my "go to" virtual synthesizers called ElectraX.

It's made by a small European company called Tone2 located south of Munich in Bavaria. It's simply an amazing instrument becuase it can not only do classic synth sounds, but also excels at massive digital sounds with motion. ElectraX is all over my new tracks that are in progress. It is super responsive and I use it for a lot of lead work.

I actually helped out with beta testing ElectraX and as a result my name is in the credits of the synth which is quite an honor!

Here is a little audio snippet from a custom patch I created. This shows off ElectraX's classic analog side.
